About

Alan McColm

Alan helps people and teams achieve extraordinary results and exceed their own expectations. Equally at home in the boardroom, staff-canteen or 'at the coal face', he consistently gains the trust of his clients, and their teams. Drawing from over thirty years' experience as a leader, he helps people plot their own unique course and define their own measures of success. He does the practical and obvious. Drawing from each engagement he ensures that new knowledge and experience is used to refine and enhance proven tools and techniques. As a result his clients continually grow, deliver improved, measurable results and build increased capacity, regardless of culture or discipline.

Working from a base in Central Scotland, Alan's enthusiasm to learn and pass on his experience and skills, has driven him to lead and facilitate culture-change initiatives in the UK, and also internationally across Europe, Africa and the US. His career spans a number of sectors including education, financial services, professional services and hospitality. Alan is a balanced leader who quickly assesses how to get the best from those around him, whilst being comfortable with difficult decision making. Alan has launched 4 new businesses and has successfully led two business turnarounds - achieving successful growth in both cases. Most importantly, Alan understands what it takes to build a successful business and make it sustainable.

Alan has worked with organisations as diverse as the PGAs of Europe, IBM, Royal Bank of Scotland, the US Forestry Service, the Malawian Government, and research institutes and universities across three continents. His pioneering work on the REDD Horizon project in Malawi transformed how leadership can be coached and results delivered, creating truly sustainable capacity where it matters most.
